Beef Chow Mein
Beef Chow Mein
Great recipe with lots of veggies! Going to need 5 burners to cook everything. If you only have 4 burners, set the sauce aside since that is made first.
Ingredients
1 1/2 pounds of beef skirt steak, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 cups of green cabbage, chopped
1 teaspoon sesame seeds
1 package frozen of lightly seasoned Asian Medley vegetable mix (10-11 ounce)
1/4 cup of bean spouts
1/4 cup green onions, thinly sliced
1 package of fresh sliced mushrooms ( 8 ounce)
1 package of Lo Mein noodles (14 ounce)
1/4 cup of peanuts
1 tablespoon minced garlic
3 tablespoons butter
2 teaspoons fresh ginger
1 package chow miew noodles (6 ounce)
2 cups cooked rice (for side)
Sauce
1 cup beef broth
1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
1/3 cup of soy sauce
1/3 cup oyster sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons sesame seed oil
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions
1. Put the beef into a bowl, toss with baking soda and chill in frig for 15 minutes uncovered. This will make the beef super tender!
2. While the meat is chilling, put all the sauce ingredients into a sauce pan and high to high. Stir constantly till it gets thick and bubbles, then pull off heat and set aside.
3. Pour beef into stainer and rinse, the dry well with paper towels.
4. Put the beef back in the bowl, and toss with 2 tablespoons of the sauce you just made. Cover and put in frig for one hour.
6. Heat a large skill to medium high. Put 3 tablespoons of butter in with the garlic, sesame seeds and peanuts and cook and stir for 3 minutes, then turn down heat to medium.
5. Add the celery, cabbage, stirring constantly until cabbage is wilted, which is about 3 minutes.
6. Add mushrooms, bean sprouts, ginger, and Asian Medley mix, toss, cover and turn down heat to medium low and cook for another 15 minutes.
7. Start cooking rice, according to the package instructions.
8. Heat another large skillet to medium high. Place all the meat in the skillet and cook and toss for 10 minutes. Cover and turn heat to low.
9. Cook the Lo Mein noodles according to the package instructions, then rinse in a strainer once it is done.
10. To serve, place noodles on plate, then the vegetables, then the meat and pour sauce over the top, then top with chow mein noodles.
